first date

Location: SH Studio by Appointment

The start of our collaboration. Think of it as a first date: an honest conversation about you, your home, and what you hope to build together. We'll introduce our team, hear your vision, and walk you through how we work. Together we'll sketch loose parameters around the scope of work, budget, and timeline, and see whether the project and our studio are a good fit. Bring questions, inspiration, screenshots, and the dreams you've only said out loud once. By the end, we'll both have a clear sense of scope, fit, and what comes next.

After this meeting, we'll review everything together and follow up by email with an agreement. Your signed agreement and retainer place you in our queue, which typically runs 4 to 6 weeks before we begin in earnest. Your retainer locks in your spot, and during the wait we keep things moving: coordinating with your architect (if applicable), selecting appliances, dialing in the design direction, and ordering samples. Nothing sits idle. Retainers typically range from 5 to 10% of the total scope and may apply toward your final balance, depending on your specific retainer agreement structure.

smart start

Location: Project Site

We come to you. For renovations, this means visiting your home to take careful measurements and photos. We learn the bones of the project: measurements, light, sight lines, and the way you move through a room. The design that follows is grounded in real life, not just a floor plan. For new construction, where there's nothing yet to visit, we work from the builder's approved plans instead.

develop design & selections

Location: SH Studio

After Smart Start, we get to work in the studio. Floor plans, elevations, 3D renderings, and the first round of selections. Every line is drawn with intention. Product specialists are brought in where their expertise matters. When the preliminary design is ready, we invite you into our studio for the first presentation. We'll have bites, good company, and a comfortable place to walk through the design together. This is your first look at it. We share every idea, gather your feedback, and use it to refine the design before final sign-off.

The time between Smart Start and this presentation varies with scope, but typically runs a few weeks.

Splendid Presentation & Sign Off

Location: shd studio

The moment your design is officially yours. You'll come back to the studio to walk through every refined selection and design choice, ask your final questions, and sign off. All decision-makers should be in the room. This is the one time we make sure every voice is heard before we lock everything in.

Timely approval of the final design keeps your pricing and lead times accurate.

Contract & construction plans

Location: SH Studio

From sign-off, we move toward contract. By the time we sit down together for the contract meeting, your conceptual designs have become construction plans: a full set of construction documents that turn every selection, dimension, and detail into instructions a builder and trades can execute. Final measurements and any last design refinements are already incorporated. Nothing is left to interpretation. With the contract signed, the complete trade package goes to your builder, ready for construction.

Design Oversight

Location: SH Studio & project site

Construction begins. Your builder runs the build, owns the schedule, and coordinates the trades. We stay involved as your design advocate. We answer questions, navigate on-the-fly decisions, and protect the integrity of the design from rough framing to the final reveal. We visit the site at agreed milestones, and the depth of our involvement scales to your project and the services you've hired us for.

Location: Project Site

The part we love. With construction wrapped, we transform the house into a home. Furniture, art, soft goods, and accessories. Every finishing layer that makes a space feel lived in. Depending on the scope you've hired us for, this can mean a styled kitchen with bowls in the cabinets and salt by the stove, beds made, towels hung, and the pantry stocked. We hand you the keys to a home that's ready from the moment you walk through the door.

Warranty, care, and service information are delivered at project completion.
